A Good Way To Spend The Last Day in Marrakech

I'm so sorry for the delay, but last week we were in Germany to celebrate our wedding with friends and family and to get the civil ceremony in order to make our wedding official. It was a quite intense week, so I didn't have time to work on a new post.

Now back on Gran Canaria I finally found some time to write about our last day in Marrakech. Although we tried to keep this last day a little bit more relaxed and simple, we didn't have less fun, on the contrary, we really did have a wonderful day.

First we slept a bit longer and we took this delicious moroccan breakfast, what we got every day in our Riad, without hurry. Due to the the nightly prayers (ramadan), we needed an our more than usually to get up.

Always a great place to start the day in Marrakech, are the Souks (before 11:00 am). So after breakfast we decided to take our last stroll through the Souks to rich our favorite place, which is the restaurant at the Kasbah Mosque "Zeitoun Café".

My tip, although you might be tempted to buy all your Moroccan souvenirs on the first day, you’re best leaving shopping to your last day as you’ll have the chance to already check prices on your key purchases and go back to the stalls that you preferred the most. So on the way to the restaurant I ended up purchasing some handmade and a beautiful bronze tealight holders.

After purchasing our last souvenirs, we finally arrived the Kasbah quarter. We really liked the surrounding of the Kasbah quarter and this nicely located restaurant with the beautiful roof terrace, where we had a fantastic view to the Kasbah Mosque. The service of the restaurant is very kind and really good. The Tajines are unbeatable and the prices are very fair. We just felt so comfortable that we would like to get back to enjoy the last delicious lunch in Marrakech.

After the lunch we went back to our Riad to spend some time in the cool patio at the pool area. Because at this time (after lunch) the temperature gets really high and it's almost unbearable in the street of Marrakech. So the best thing is, to stay for a while in the Riad and take a nap or a mint tea.

At the evening we decided to check out the Yves Saint Laurent Museum, which was fantastic. It is definitely a Must-See-Visist for every fashionista. The Museum offers the possibility to see how the landscape and culture of Morocco inspired one of the most prolific fashion designers of our time. Including an area called the YSL Collection where you can see some of his greatest and most successful works. There’s also an Yves-Saint Laurent Exhibition Hall that showcases a grand collection of sketches and paintings of some of his finest endeavors. Unfortunately it wasn't allowed to take pictures.

But from the Instagram-worthy exterior to the bookshop, which is packed with books revealing details about Yves’ design process, his Morocco home (a place where according to reports he felt way more at home than in Paris) and his creative vision. As I said before, the museum’s design is a delight.

It was hard to miss a fresh orange juice at the stalls on the Jemaa El Fna square. Orange, lemon, ginger, pomegranate, avocado, watermelon, strawberry and many other seasonal fruits make variety of juice options. It’s a great and super healthy refreshment, especially during the super hot days. However the orange juice is a must try and it costs only 4-5 dirham (0,50€). So we went after the Eves-Saint Laurent Museum back to Jemand El Fa square to get our last fresh orange juice.

The day before we discovered a beautiful restaurant in Riad style called Koulchi Zine, where we booked a table for having dinner on our last night in Marrakech. If you haven’t had the chance yet, be sure to book a lunch or dinner at one of the Riads. There are so many amazing Riads, where you will find the best Moroccan food.

This was our last day in Marrakech, before we hit the road to the Scarabeo Dessert Camp, where we stayed unfordutaly only one day. Soon you can read everything about the Scarabeo Camp here on my blog.

Have you already been to Marrakech? What were your favorite things to do in Marrakech?

Please let me know and leave a comment if you like.

Salam alaikum,

Katy
