Where To Go When You Don't Want To Visit The Most Popular Sights Along The Cape Peninsular

South Africa is so diverse, it took us through landscapes ranging from desert to jungle to beaches to rolling hills blanketed with vineyards. We also saw a lot of amazing sunsets and I believe you have to see it by your own to really understand how gorgeous this beautiful country is.

Keep reading for inspiration where to go when you don’t want to visit the most popular sights along the Cape Peninsular.

As we lived in Scarborough, a costal village on the cape peninsular at the Atlantic side, we would like to check out the drive (M66) from Scarborough to Simons Town and we discovered on the top of the Red Hill a beautiful township same-named like the Red Hill. It’s one of the few rural townships around Cape Town and while it comes with its own challenges it also comes with its own unique beauty.

We took this drive at the evening to ensure that we have the golden light and we were rewarded when we arrived at the top of the Red Hill with some awesome moments as you can see on the pics. On clear days you can see on one side the Atlantic Ocean and on the other side the Indian Ocean. On this day it was hazy but nevertheless not less beautiful.

If you like, take the time to study the group of stone ruins, all that is left of Redhill Village, from which people were relocated during the Group Areas act in 1968. Former residents are in the process of a battle with government to reclaim their land.

Make a day of the drive by including Boulders beach and the penguins, Red Hill, on to Scarborough and Misty Cliffs, stopping for lunch at the Hub Cafe or Camel Rock Restaurant and a vist to Cape Point Nature Reserve.

On the way back to Scarborough next to the RedHill Pottery we had another beautiful moment. We saw some horses grazing on a meadow. Normally nothing special but due to the light it looked like in a fairy tale.

I've always had a very special connection to these animals. I like their silence and if we learn their language a real partnership can be grown.

I’m always so thankful having moments like this and having the possibility to capture them forever. This is the reason why we are traveling. Because traveling is the only thing that make you rich even you spend money.

Just remember, traveling is always a once in a lifetime experience that allows your mind to get away for awhile and allows you to create memories.

You won't regret it.

Enjoy the moments,

Katy
