What We Did And What I Wore On Our Third Day In NYC

New York, New York…!!!

New York is truly one of the most amazing places you can visit. Such an incredible melting pot of people and cultures, a place where anything and anyone goes and you can feel this pulsation and energy. We had never been there before, so this was such a great and thrilling trip for us, with so much to explore and to do.

The best way to travel New York is by walking and exploring and this was exactly what we did the last two days, which I already shared with you over the last few weeks (What We Did On Our First Day In New York - Travel Inspirations & Our Second Day In New York City - Travel Guide For New York Newbies.

Today I’m going to share our third day, which was actually my favorite day because we didn't do so much ;-).

The reason, we were a bit exhausted on that morning and we also felt pretty overwhelmed by all the impressions we got during the last two days. Dani and me, normally living on an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean near North Africa. So, I think, you can imagine that we were quite overloaded of all that thrilling excitements. That's why we haven't planned not that much for our third day.

Since it was Saturday and we heard about that many flea markets and food markets should take place on every Saturday in Brooklyn, we decided to have first an extensive breakfast and we stayed in Brooklyn to check out the flea markets. Anyhow we still wanted to buy some old vinyl records, which we always bring as a souvenir from our city trips.

Our first stop was in our neighborhood having breakfast. I already had told you in my last post about the French cafe/bar (Anges Noir Cafe), we wanted to visit again because the almond croissants, we just grabbed on the day before, were soooo yummy, that we had to come back. Super hungry we ordered 3 breakfast dishes because we couldn't decide which one. Everything sounded so delicious on the menu, that we couldn't choose only one. But don’t be afraid, we did share them, so we could try from every breakfast dish.

We heard about the “Smorgasburg Food Market in Williamsburg”. It’s one of the trendiest open-air food markets in New York City, where mostly the local people meet, eat and drink. It was our following stop after the breakfast and as we weren’t hungry we just had a look to check out what we should enjoy later at lunch. We found a huge selection of small stalls offering a mix of food with the finest local delicacies. Since it was very sweaty and muggy that day we were thirsty again and when we past a stall with non alcohol fruit cocktails served in frozen hollowed fruits like (pineapples, oranges, watermelons) we coudnt’t skip it. After we finally got our frozen pineapple (we had to wait in line for a while) we went to the shore of the Hudson river to enjoy the beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline on the East River Waterfront.

Since we still wanted to purchase some vinyl records, we checked out, during taking our cocktail, briefly on google where we would find the next flea market in that area. We didn’t find a big flea market. On the contrary, there were a lot of small ones, what we actually considered as an advantage. Right at the next intersection on the other side of the street we found a small but no less offered flea market, where I got a short Levis jeans for only 15 $ (which was quite a stroke of luck, as I check out later that Levis jeans are traded second hand for 80-100 $). Further a cool oversized tee, which I’m going to wear next day.

After that flea marktet we decided to visit an art and craft flea market, which was luckily located inside in a kind of warehouse. There we finally found some cool records and some handcrafted cropped tees which are created by the photographer Zack Dimen.

After that we strolled trough the streets for a while, went back to the Smorgasburg Food Market having a late lunch. We just shared a snack like homemade fries made of fresh potatoes and different homemade sauces.

Sorry, that we didn't take any pics of the food-market and the flea-markets, since it was so crowded with local people and so unbearably hot we didn’t want to bother. Daniell just took a few analog shots of that area.

But we took even more pics later in the underground of the Subway station, as you can see.

At home I did a small fitting of my flea-market purchases and as Dani would like to take some pics inside the subway station, we decided to use my new outfit. I wore the Levis shorts and a cropped tee with my Vans and my hip bag worn as crossbody. I know this look needs a bit of getting used to it as it's so 90s, but I wanted to try something different and I was so inspired by this city and the people who live there. Some may don’t like that 90s look because it's not so popular and mainstream, but I'm supposed to feel comfortable and not other people.

After visiting the Subway station near our loft to take some pics, we were pleasantly surprised with a wonderful summer rain when we came up the stairs of the Subway. So we decided not having a night out dinner today, actually we wanted to eat in a greek restaurant, but we decided on a cheaper variant and we went to the next supermarket. We shopped for a light evening meal, like bread, cheese, grapes, tomatoes, rocket salad and some beer. In retrospect, this variant wasn’t much cheaper because of the beer we bought, which was surprisingly expensive. But never mind we had a cozy relaxed evening with candlelight in our loft and since we had some plans for tomorrow early in the morning before our flight back, we were happy with how the evening ended ;-).

So stay tuned and curious about our last day in NYC, which is coming up soon.

Kisses,

Katy!
