The Coming Back Of My Fav Knit - New Zealand Evening Look

Very soon autumn officially starts and that’s why I slowly start to pull out my autumn essentials from the back of my closet. One of my favorite autumn pieces is this cozy knit I wore on the pics. Since I bought it one year ago for our trip to New Zealand as I already knew that this country especially the south island of New Zealand can be quite chilly even in the beginning of summer. Although I only wear it in the autumn-winter season, I have never regretted buying this garment, even if I have spend a little more money on it. Because this piece is perfect in style, cozy for cold days, timeless and ecology.

I heartily would like to share with you my fav knit and I can asure you this garment is so cozy that you don’t want to take it off.

On the pics, captured in New Zealand, I wore it in the evening, since every evening it became quite fresh although the early summer days were already warm. But sometimes the temperature dropped down to 3 degrees at nights.

At this time we stayed at the most northern tip of the south island at the Wharariki Holiday Park at the Cape Farewell. And after a warm and lovely day we had on the Wharariki Beach, where we just came back from, we found this little corner on the campground, due to the beautiful evening light we decided to take some pics. It started to get chilly so I just put my fav knit on and from the walk we have made to get to the beach and back I still had my boots on. So that was the perfect match for that “New Zealand Evening Look”.

Today I actually don’t want to write about the whole outfit. I would like to write only about the knit and its brand, but without intentional advertising, much more I would like to emphasize the philosophy of that brand, because in my opinion they found a great way to make slow fashion happen. Because for obviously too long, the fashion industry has chosen to overlook the environment and the people who made their clothes from the ground up.

Luckily nowadays there are a few simple alternatives, which are currently pretty popular again, like keep wearing the clothes you already have (capsule wardrobe, minimalism) buy second hand or buy fair fashion clothes (sustainability).

For me the most sustainable way is to keep wearing you clothes you already have, because these pieces have already been produced and therefore already out of the ecologic and economic circle. They have no impact anymore. If you really need something new in you wardrobe, first check the second hand opportunities and then the possibility of buying new but in the fair fashion way. Many innovative and trendy fair fashion labels exist, like my fav ones TWO THIRDS and PASSENGER CLOTHING.

The brand TWO THIRDS, where I got my fav knit from. They create sustainable clothing made in Europe by using fabrics to omit the use of conventional cotton, such as Tencel , Hemp, Linen and of course organic cotton, which demand less resources than conventional cotton and have less negative environmental impacts, which in turn is better for everyone.

This brand also believe that another solution is longevity, which is created through timelessness paired with quality. Thats why they are especially taking care of thoughtful designs and quality of the raw material to the production processes. They keep the production local to concentrate in one place as possible and work more closely with the suppliers. By keeping the distances short, the connection to the suppliers is more direct to ensure the quality to make the products last longer.

Unfortunately right now every second a garbage truck with textiles is taken to the landfill or incinerated, which is a tragic loss of resources. That is why TWO THIRDS has started to source unwanted materials from other places. This is followed by the production of fabrics and blends such as recycled nylon, recycled cotton and recycled polyester, which conserves resources and reduces C02 emissions.

Besides they not only ensure that production is made closer to home, but also that it’s actually better! Because the production facilities where the so-called wet processes, like dyeing and washing take place, have on-site wastewater treatment plants, contributing to increased water quality.

Payments and safety are also some huge issues in the fashion industry. Just remember all the horrible stories of collapsing production sites in Bangladesh. By producing only in Portugal, Italy, and France means that the production facilities are regulated under European standards and are therefore safe.

And a really good point in my eyes is, that TWO THIRDS is one of the very few brands they offer pre-ordered clothing in the online store. The reason why is simple, to reduce over-production. Because textile overproduction is also a huge problem in the fashion industry. Too many clothing is produced and not sold. It’s normal that in big retail chains a lot of garments are not sold. Enormous amounts of clothes get made only to end up in landfill. This means wasted fabric, dyes, excessive environmental impacts and so on. It‘s a burden on the environment without benefit to anyone. That’s why they decide to offer pre-ordering, so they can estimate how many pieces of a specific garment they are going to sell, subsequently ordering exact quantities. This rules out overproduction.

TWO THIRDS have also a so called “Drawdown Program” and I also would like to show you what kind of program it is and which impact we could reach. For every order, 1€ is collected and set aside. With this money, they support different projects that improve the sustainability aspects of the supply chain. It means collaborating with various actors, such as research institutes, different suppliers, and other organizations to fund innovative research on textiles and production processes. It also involves supporting suppliers with investments in renewable energy production, which leads to positive effects not only for TWO THORDS, but also for other brands working with the same facility.

In point of view TWO THIRDS deservedly can be very proud of themselves that they have created such a good sustainable concept for their brand, which still works. Well done!!!

I hope you can now understand why I only would like to write about this brand today, because it makes me happy to see that the fashion industry is starting to think about how we can reduce the impact on the environment. Because, as you know, this is very important matter to me.

Wish you all a nice Thursday and please, be aware that we can't escape becoming sustainable, because there is no planet B. We have to start with it, cause there is no other option.

Sorry for the critical last words but it' s the truth.

Love,

Katy
