Unforgetable Morning And Exploring A Huge Waterfall On La Palma

The Second Day On La Palm Started With An Unforgetable Morning.

As the first light of dawn painted the sky, our second day on La Palma began. To embrace the magic of the morning hours I climbed onto the roof of our Toyota Land Cruiser, where a front row seat awaited me to watch the rising sun cast its golden hues across the landscape. I was fascinated by the wonderful silence and the beauty of nature.

With each passing second, the world seemed to come alive as the sun rays gently awakened the surroundings. The stillness of the early morning hours has always had a certain charm what made me to pause in time and simply observe the natural spectacle that was unfolding in front of me. How nice it was to linger there and lose myself while La Palma showed its beauty.

But the desire to discover more arose, and I finally went down. It was time for breakfast and to continue exploring this fascinating island. The morning air was crisp and reminded us that we were in the wilderness. As the sun emerged over the mountain peaks, it wrapped everything in a warm embrace that made the morning chill went away and made me take off my hoodie and my woolen beanie for a light sun hat.

Behind the cabin, we came across a charming wooden sitting area. Its rustic charm invited us to breakfast in the sunlight. A large wooden table and benches allowed us to bring all the delicacies and enjoy them in this breathtaking landscape.

Sitting at the wooden table, having the second coffee, accompanying by the soft sunlight and around us the beauty of this island. As we enjoyed our breakfast in this setting, I couldn't help but feel grateful for this start of our day and to have the opportunity to travel overland.

With the anticipation of discovering something new again, we set off our camp. A little sad to leave this place but also excited to see what La Palma had in store for us, we hit the off road track down the mountain.

On the second day we had the plan to visit the “Cascada De Los Tilos”, which is a famose waterfall on La Palma and by the golden hues of late afternoon light could be a beautiful experience. That’s why we decided to take first a scenic route to check out part of the island by car.

While exploring another laurel forest, we realized that those forests, which were common in European landscapes many years ago, are now only found on the islands in the Atlantic Ocean like Canary Islands, Azoren and Madeira. The lush greenery, mossy terrain and abundant ferns create an atmosphere often associated with jungle and rainforest. This unique environment set the tone that afternoon for the experience that awaited us.

As the sun began its descent, casting a warm golden glow through the treetops, we embarked on a 15 minutes walk through another section of the laurel forest leading to the waterfall.

Approaching the “Cascada De Los Tilos”, we first passed through two stone tunnels that added a touch of excitement to us. These tunnels, big enough to walk through comfortably, felt like portals to a different world.

The waterfall, standing at an impressive 22 meters in height, was even more fascinating than we thought. Even without the heavy spring rains, which normally swelled the stream, creating a magnificent display of cascading water. Our visit in April was rewarded with a sight to behold, both in person and through the lens of our cameras.

The power of the waterfall were so enticing that I couldn't resist the urge to stand under. The chill of the water was invigorating, and the experience was nothing short of exhilarating – a moment and feeling I 'll treasure forever.

After the refreshing encounter with the waterfall, it was time to head back to the parking place. The late hour prompted us to make a swift drive of one hour to the other side of the island, where we planned to spend the night in preparation for an early morning hike through a riverbed. The promise of another adventure awaited us, a tale that will be told in my next blog post.

In the end of the day, when we were on our campsite for the night, we talked about the impressions we were allowed to collect on that day. The “Cascada De Los Tilos” left an indelible mark on us. Its beauty, nestled within a laurel forest reminding us of a past era, was a sight to behold. To Discover the tunnels, the lush green environment, and the majestic waterfall itself painted a picture of the typical nature of La Palma that words and photos can’t capture entirely. This Island, with its hidden treasures, truly offers experiences you won’t t forget.

Stay tuned,

Katy
