Traveling - From Feeling Confined to Experiencing Freedom

IT’S ALL ABOUT RECONNECTING WITH MYSELF.

Traveling is a true gift, particularly for individuals like me who are a high sensitive person (HSP), as trevaeling is incredibly liberating and motivating. Ever wondered why I'm discussing my high sensitivity now? Well, just now, at the age of 48, I discovered that I am a high sensitive person. Recent studies indicate that up to 30% of the population is highly sensitive, equating to one in three individuals. This realization prompted me to share more about my high sensitivity on my blog. You might find some aspects relatable and realize that you are not alone.

Many sensitive individuals, including myself, have felt different since childhood, often struggling with a sense of being misunderstood, unseen, and not taken seriously. Discovering one's high sensitivity usually brings immense relief, offering a deeper understanding of oneself

Now, let's delve into why traveling holds such significance for me. Despite potential challenges, like traveling from Europe to the Maldives, it provided numerous opportunities to break free from everyday pressures, external influences, and negative energies. Being highly receptive to others' emotions, I require moments of solitude and distance to recharge. These journeys offer the space I need to reconnect with myself, align with my aspirations, and regain balance. Traveling enables me to let go of distractions and immerse myself in the present moment, fostering mindfulness and self-awareness.

Spending time in nature, especially on the beach, allows me to disconnect from my thoughts and appreciate the simplicity of the surroundings.

Highly sensitive individuals often experience heightened senses, particularly “The Touch”. I am acutely aware of tactile sensations, preferring comfortable, natural fabrics over restrictive materials. Sewing my own clothes from fabrics like cotton reflects my love for creating cozy garments that feel pleasant against the skin. That's probably why I started practicing sewing with cotton handkerchiefs on my grandma's sewing machine as a child and started sewing my own clothes as a teenager. For our trip to the Maldives, I sewed many of my vacation clothes myself, such as this dress , I wore at the beach and the knotted top. I also made a wrap skirt from the same fabric as the top, which I wore in the photo of me drinking from the coconut.

Exploring natural textures such as sand and stones evokes a sense of freedom and tranquility, reinforcing the importance of recognizing and utilizing personal resources. Integrating nature-inspired practices, like walking barefoot, into daily life can provide grounding and rejuvenation

By understanding and honoring individual needs, such as engaging with tactile experiences, you can cultivate self-care and inner strength. Embracing these insights fosters a deeper connection with ourselves and promotes overall well-being.
