Countryside Jumpsuit Made By Myself For Myself.

Or just looks like a jumpsuit? Read on…!

Hope you had some nice and beautiful Christmas days. We had such a nice time at home, although we were only the two of us without family and friends. But we are thankful to have the privilege of having this time of the year off and we could overdose on the things we love. As we had some sunny and warm days we stayed lots of time in our garden, reading a book, eating treats, having barbecue, making campfire, we do puzzle, having long walks by the sea with our dog and we join some FaceTime-dinner-dates with family and friends, which was super nice and funny.

This year was probably for all of us a year that we had not expected. It has played us quite hard and unpredictable. The normal habits were completely flipped or turned upside down. It was a roller coaster of emotions with many new experiences, insights and lessons we have learned.

That's why everyone should be allowed to enjoy this time without judgment. Because we have deserved it all.

At least one good thing brought the pandemic, it’s about letting old crafts revive again. Like sewing, baking sourdough bred or pizza. Sewing I always practiced it a little bit, but never really had the time to practice it extensively. But this year I finally had the time for it and it makes me proud to have now many new pieces in my closet, which are my absolute favorite pieces.

I already showed you one of my dresses, yet I still have not shown you my self-made jumpsuit set, I had sewed as well during the year. I could wear it when we were camping in September at the countryside of Gran Canaria with “lennytheoverlander”.

It looks like a jumpsuit but it isn’t. It’s actually a two-piece set. But the wrapped top combined with shorts from the same fabric let it seems like an onesies.

I was inspired by two of the DIY sewing koryphäens. One was Maddy from “The Essential Club”. She has also sewed a two-piece jumpsuit. I just chose a different shape of the top, because the very extreme puff sleeves with the horizontal straight neckline don’t suit me well. Due to the broad shoulders I own, I have chosen a V-cut shape, as this kind of neckline let my upper body appears more flattered. The wrap look, from which I was inspired by some DIY’s of Collective Gen, has two functions. First to cover the rubber waistband of the shorts and second to conceal a little belly, as well as the large bow. To make it look at least a little more playful on the sleeves I added a shirring at the hemline, which is easily created by inserting an elastic band.

The bucket hat I wore, had definitely its advantages this weekend, because we had such a sunny days and by wearing that hat my face was protected from the sun. You can get the pattern for free at homepage of “The Essential Club”. If you would like to try to sew for the first time, this is a perfectly suitable DIY sewing project for beginners. I used two colors for this hat, so I can flip it around and can wear it from both sides. The same khaki colored material I used for that jumpsuit and as well the same fabrics just in off-white color. On The pics I chose the white side of the hat, so that it doesn’t look like too total khaki. I just folded up the brim a little to let the khaki tone glimpse through.

As shoes I put my grey colored classic Vans, which I always owed in my closet since my childhood. They were only replaced by a new pair from time to time.

The good thing about this outfit is that you can combine the wrapped top and the shorts perfectly with other clothes, because they are timeless basics. Some other looks with those pieces I will show you in the next post’s.

As an adventure seeking and a creative woman, when I'm not in the nature you will find me getting lost in making my own clothes. I established this blog to share my slow fashion looks and sometimes some stylish DIYs, travel guides and relevant tips and tricks to inspire others to get creative, mindful and resourceful.

For me there's something rewarding about having clothings in the wardrobe I've made by myself for myself. I would like to encourage others to experience that feeling for themselves or at the very least open people's minds to being more conscious about where they source items from.

Imagine, creating your own clothes, as much as possible, and sourcing the rest of life’s necessities ethically, wouldn't this be a good solution to save our resources and thus fight climate change? Think about it.

Love,

Katy!
